Delicious Reality

TeAda Productions presents

Who really cooks your meal? TeAda brings you tantalizing and provocative tales from LA’s restaurant scene. In stark contrast to cooking shows on reality T.V., this new ensemble theater performance uncovers the untold experiences in the kitchens and dining rooms of today's restaurants. This multicultural ensemble mixes together a series of tastyimages, stories, and mythology from the front and back of the house*, with a healthy dose of worker and immigrant perspective.

*”Front and back of the House” is a term used in both restaurants and theater. “Front of the House” meaning the dining room, or the audience. “Back of the House” meaning kitchen or backstage.

Duck Hunter Shoots Angel

THE STORY: DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL is the uproarious story of two bumbling Alabama brothers who have never shot a duck but think they shot an angel. As they lament their fates in a murky swamp, they are chased by a cynical tabloid journalist and his reluctant photographer, who don't believe any of it—until feathers, wings and a tiara are discovered along the way. The play hysterically interweaves a love story, sibling rivalry, tawdry media, race relations and cultural stereotypes as the chase to find the angel builds to a crescendo in the swamp. Ultimately a sweet allegory about redemption, DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL has been hailed by audiences as a rare comedy with a surprisingly heartfelt lesson.

LA DANCE FESTIVAL 2013

C0-Produced by Diavolo Dance Theater and Brockus Project Dance Company

With the goal of highlighting local dance, Diavolo Dance Theater and Brockus Project are co-producing a new Los Angeles Dance Festival, April 13 and 14, at the Brewery Arts Complex just east of downtown.
So far, 16 contemporary dance companies have signed up to participate, including Barak Marshall’s dance company, Oni Dance, Kybele Dance Theater and Lula Washington Dance Theatre. Deborah Brockus, artistic director of Brockus Project, said she is awaiting word from several other groups.
“What I want to do with this festival is somewhat similar to the American Dance Festival in North Carolina,” said Brockus, speaking of the annual summer event that is an international leader for dance training of college students, and for presenting and commissioning contemporary work.  For the Los Angeles Dance Festival, “the companies are all going to be doing open classes in the day, and then there are performances in the evening.”
The festival is geared not only for audiences but also for local dancers -- especially college students -- looking to become better acquainted with the area’s professional companies.
“What we’re really trying to do is invigorate the full community,” she said. “There are so many amazing [university] dance programs and they [the students] don’t know there are a component of companies that will hire them.”

TEADAWORKS Festival 2o13
TeAda Productions presents

Arroz Con Spam y Bento

The Adventures of Bad Sailor Moon, Cat Mom, and Barbie Girl.

Featuring new works by Eriko Azuma, Lesley Asistio, and Sofia Barrett-Ibarria
Director/Dramaturgy by D’Lo
With additional dramaturgy from Leilani Chan, Alison De La Cruz, Shyamala Moorty & Ova Saopeng
Eriko, Sofia, and Lesley cook up a spicy concoction of three solo pieces that will take you on a provocative and sometimes frightening journey of sex, bra-stuffing, and coming to terms with our confusing loves for white men and Honey Boo Boo. Overbearing mothers deconstruct the so-called American dream, while their daughters struggle to find beauty in a world full of suffocating family members, boyfriends, and tv-show ideals. Hilarious and brutally honest super-heroines (us!) battle against Japanese-girl obsessions, opinionated aunties, and beauty-obsessed moms. Meet a promiscuous teen with a 4.0 GPA, a loud-mouthed, thong-wearing Cuban cousin, and a babysitter/Asian nightclub hostess who is currently looking for an American-citizen man, or a woman to marry.
